Shona Kinsella Is Awesome

I’d like to say a few quick words here about the wonderful Shona Kinsella, who as well as editing The Sound of the Dark for Angry Robot, also loved the book so much she wrote a blurb for it too.

The reason I’m mentioning this is because – as some of the online reviews have noted – there are a number of errors in the published version of The Sound of the Dark, and I wanted to make it clear that these are not Shona’s fault.

While I can’t go into detail about the reasons, a month before the book was due to go to the printers – i.e. long after Shona had done her work - circumstances beyond mine or Angry Robot’s control meant that it required major cuts in length. Due to the tight deadline it was a massive undertaking, and as a result, errors crept in.

These have now been corrected in the ebook edition of The Sound of the Dark; they’ll also be fixed as and when it goes to a second printing.

Again, Shona bears no responsibility for any of this, as it’s the result of work done after she’d completed hers. Nonetheless, as she’s credited as the book’s editor, I’ve been concerned that some readers might think she was responsible for the errors in the text. I wanted to set the record straight, and I’m just sorry it’s taken me so long to do so (I've been a little burned out in recent months.)

Shona Kinsella did an excellent and professional job of editing my book throughout; she was an absolute pleasure to work with, and I’d recommend her without reservation to any publishers or indie authors who are lucky enough to have a chance to work with her.

Please share this post as widely as you can.

Many thanks,

Daniel :)
