So, the review tour for The Ravening rolls along, with the next stop being today at Marcy Sorenson's Insta. The second week continues with visits to Booked Around The World on the 5th October, Amanda Castro on 6th October, First Sedition on 7th October and Genna Reading on 8th October. The final leg of the journey starts on 9th October at Shona May's Insta, with the train barrelling on to Katie Is Completely Fine on the 10th, Cat Treadwell on the 11th, before splitting the weekend with a visit to Cydni Arterbury on Saturday the 12th and ending the journey on Sunday 13th October at The Larl Bookworm.
I'll be at Fantasycon in Chester for the last three dates, so any readers attending, I hope you'll say hi in person!
In the meantime, here are some of the reviews from the tour so far. If you want to check out these reviewers' pages yourself, you'll find information on the tour to date here.
Azee Books: "a little bit The Ritual, and little bit of Handmaid's Tale... The plot was so full of surprises I had no idea what would happen next. As soon as I thought "oh I've got this book figured out", woosh another twist. Definitely a fun horror read. Great for the Halloween season this year!"
Escape Beyond Pages: "From the start, Church skilfully crafts an atmosphere filled with tension and unease... The Ravening excels at creating an eerie, unsettling atmosphere, filled with dark twists and ancient evil folklore. The mix of horror, the occult, and strong female characters, with a hint of fantasy, makes this a compelling read. "
Amanda Curry: "When I think horror I think of books like this. I loved it so much."
Laura's Little Book Nook: "I wasn’t sure what to expect when going into this, but I was instantly hooked. I loved all the characters in this - Jenna is the bad ass FMC that I love to read about. Holly goes to hell and back as she fights for the woman she loves. James, Jenna’s ex boyfriend, is the type of character that just grates on your nerves, and Church writes him soo well. The Bonewalker is eerily creepy.... Honestly, this is a fantastic creepy read, perfect for spooky season!"
The Spine Of Motherhood: "I’m a big fan of Daniel Church’s writing. He weaves tight, nerve wracking stories with multi faceted characters... The Ravening is out now so add it to your spooky season TBR!"
Lexi Java: "This was a captivating, fast-paced, horror thriller. The Ravening dives into real-life daily demons - PTSD, bullying, self-worth, and grief. With supernatural elements thrown in. Even though some parts were rough, I still enjoyed it."
Big thanks to all these bloggers.
A couple of reviews of The Ravening popped up this week in the wild (i.e. the rest of the internet) at The Bookbeard's Blog and Offbeat YA.
Bookbeard: "Brilliantly crafted, The Ravening is an epic chiller with some hard hitting and powerful concepts at its heart. A strong main character and enraging antagonists, it’s a vicious and unsettling story yet one that maintains the kernel of truth set deeply within it."
(Seriously, I love this whole review - go read it in full!)
Offbeat YA: "Intriguing premise. Badass and resourceful heroine. Tight action. Fascinating dreamworld. All in all, I found The Ravening to be a frantic, cinematic specimen of eldritch horror with lots of cool ideas and a protagonist (and sidekick) you can get behind, and anyone willing to embrace the marriage between thriller and supernatural shouldn't miss it."
Huge thanks to Bookbeard and Offbeat YA!
Have a great weekend, everyone. And I'll hopefully see some of you at Fantasycon!
Daniel :)
